THE Losers is an explosive romp based on the potty-mouthed DC Comics series.
From its garish opening frames, the film embraces a heightened reality with bold, colourful graphics and exaggerated violence, coupled with snappy dialogue.

Armando Iannucci writes on Twitter after news breaks of his project with Hollywood star Will Smith

NEWS broke today that Armando Iannucci is teaming up with Will Smith for his latest film comedy.
However, Iannucci (@Aiannucci) wrote on Twitter: "Woke up to hear I've signed up actor Will Smith for a biopic of Charles Dickens. All mad. The information age is so bollocks sometimes."
The confusion may have come after the news from Cannes Film Festival about Iannucci's project was packaged with news about a new Charles Dickens film.

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL: Star Wars' Luke Skywalker aka Mark Hamill to put comic The Black Pearl on the big screen

STAR Wars actor Mark Hamill is aiming to be a force to be reckoned with as a movie director - adapting his debut film from his own comic.
The 58-year-old, who played Luke Skywalker in three of George Lucas's movies, is to bring to life his comic book mini-series The Black Pearl.

HE may have made his name in serious movies such as the cult classic Donnie Darko and Ang Lee's award-winning Brokeback Mountain, but Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal feels it's time he showed his lighter side.
He has chosen to show-case his comedic sensibilities in Prince Of Persia, an epic Disney project based on a video game - and one of this summer's big blockbusters.

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL: Actor and film maker Woody Allen speaks in support of child sex-scandal director Roman Polanski

ACTOR and film maker Woody Allen restated his support for fugitive director Roman Polanski, under house arrest over a 33-year-old child sex scandal.

In an interview with France Info radio from the Cannes Film Festival, Allen said Polanski, 76, "was embarrassed by the whole thing", "has suffered" and "has paid his dues".

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps sees Michael Douglas return to his Oscar-winning role as corporate raider Gordon Gekko.

Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and sale of 3D glasses help boost Cineworld revenue

Blockbuster films such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the sale of 3D glasses have helped boost revenues at Cineworld, it said today.
The group, which has 77 cinemas in the UK, reported strong trading during the 18 weeks to May 6 with total revenues up 13.9% on the same period of 2009.

Round-up of Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott's Robin Hood reviews

This version of Robin Hood seems to have been quite well received. Although it gets an average of 4/5, there's a feeling the sequel will be the one to watch.
The best bit seems to be the back-to-basics take on the story. The worst bit seems to be Crowe's accent, which roams around the country.
Daily Mail: "A good idea, very well executed" 4/5
Guardian: "Ridley Scott's reworked tale of dispossession and rebellion cleverly reconciles disparate threads of the Robin Hood myth" 4/5
Times: "Robin, though rooted firmly in turn-of-the-12-century drama, is painfully modern" 4/5

Empire: "Grown-up but not too serious; action-packed but not juvenile" 4/5

Review: Robin Hood with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett (12A, 140 mins)

EVERY generation has its own version of Robin Hood.
Douglas Fairbanks donned the tights with pride in the early 1920s, followed by a dashing Errol Flynn with a feather in his cap in the 1930s and Richard Greene in the long-running 1950s TV series.

The Queen star Helen Mirren comes face to face with her Madame Tussauds waxwork

It's a Mirren image... actress Dame Helen came face to face with her waxwork double today - and reckoned her husband wanted to marry it.
The respected actress said her director husband Taylor Hackford was taken with the silent lookalike, unveiled at Madame Tussauds.

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher to make movie of The Beatles' final years

THIS week appears to be the week for Beatles film news.
Not only are we to have a zombie-Beatles movie but Oasis's Liam Gallagher will be creating his own offering about the Fab Four's final years.
Gallagher's new film production company is developing a biopic based on a book by the Fab Four's "house hippy" in the late 1960s.

Run For Your Life ... the Beatles are to be transformed into zombies for a new movie.
Film bosses have snapped up the rights to a book which casts the Fab Four as flesh-eaters, Paul Is Undead.
The book, by Alan Goldsher, is being brought to life by movie company Double Feature whose bosses produced hits such as Pulp Fiction and Erin Brockovich, according to leading film blog Deadline

Election 2010: Tom Hanks, Gordon Brown, Leonardo diCaprio, Nick Clegg and Cameron...?

Here's something silly ahead of all the serious election business today.
If they made a film of the election campaign, who would play Brown, Clegg and Cameron?
Well, here's my ever-so-well-thought-out decision (took me a whole 2 minutes this!).
1. Tom Hanks as Gordon Brown
Give Tom a few (maybe more than a few) grey highlights and I think you've got yourself a good Gordon.
He could pull off all emotions from the self-confident sarcasm towards Clegg and Cameron in the live debates (babies at bathtime) to the head-in-hands despair on hearing the Bigotgate soundcip for the first time.

The three-hander could have started life on stage, even adopting a classic three act structure which is bookmarked by twists and turns.

Kick-Ass creators bring Jonathan Ross and Frankie Boyle on board to write comic strips for CLiNT magazine

Controversial funnymen Jonathan Ross and Frankie Boyle are writing comic strips for a new magazine from the creator of Kick-Ass, it was announced today.
Ross has created a vampire storyline for the adult mag CLiNT (on twitter @clintmag) which is due to be published from September.
